Strategic Implementation Methodology (SIM)
ATLAS Technology offers to deliver all ATLAS software products under the SIM methodology. The SIM process recognises the importance of integrating a new system into your business as opposed to handing out a disk with a page of instructions. Due emphasis is required towards budgeting and allocation of staff resources. SIM is a five-phase process with a review procedure at each phase to ensure objectives have been met. SIM provides rapid assimilation of the new technology and maximises early return on investment. The methodology reduces risk and lifts the probability of success.
Phase 1: Planning
Planning For Success
Phase one involves the development of the project definition document. This is done in conjunction with the CLIENT and will establish the lines of responsibility. It will select the team that will deliver the CLIENT the business benefits that have been identified in the business use cases through their internal process. ATLAS will present the SIM approach to the team and:
- Identify hardware requirements
- Develop the training plan
- Identify any business risk as a result of a Situation Audit
- Identify the project team – see diagram below
The cross-functional team approach used allows promotion of ownership to all applicable areas of the business. The piloting methods allow focus on business process solutions to overcome resistance to change. The implementation structure has the steering group at the highest level.
Issues that cannot be resolved by the implementation team are referred to the steering group consisting of:
- Client – Manager Forests
- Client Project Manager
- ATLAS Project Manager
- ATLAS Account Manager
Phase 2: Training
Laying the Foundation
Phase two involves training the implementation team so that they understand the requirements of the product.
ATLAS will train the implementation team so that, members of the team will be able to train others. This is the “train the trainers” approach. The team will work through a conference room pilot with a standard data set that will reinforce the training and will identify the processes. The CLIENT and ATLAS will review the process and develop the initial policies and procedures to deliver the business value identified from CLIENT’s initial high level review. On completion of this phase, areas of the business that have not been completely addressed will be identified.
Phase 3: Client Environment Test
Headstart via a business pilot
At this phase a limited CLIENT data set will be required to test the software in the CLIENTenvironment. The team will revisit what they did in phase two with actual CLIENT data. Test the outcomes, develop and check reports. The policies and procedures that have been identified, that will deliver the business benefit will be documented and signed off by the project team. The business procedures and policies that had been identified in phase two will be reviewed in light of the expected outcomes from the CLIENT data set. Conversion of CLIENT data begins.
Phase 4: Implementation
Rapid Assimilation – Go Live
A plan will be developed for the Go Live process. At this phase all data conversion will be completed. All dynamic data collection requirements will be identified. A plan to collect this data and input this to the system will be prepared. A training plan will be in place for the team to train the users. The maximising of the investment will take place at this phase.
Phase 5: Sign-off and further development
Reaching new heights
At this phase the project will be reviewed around the business benefits identified in phase two.
Modifications that have been identified in phases two and three will be reviewed and implemented if required. This phase will review what further benefit can be gained (the “New Horizon”). The project will be evaluated with regards to objectives met followed by signoff on SIM process completion.
